I’ve recently been asked about the Paleo diet by a few of our readers. Honestly, I’ve heard a lot about the Paleo diet, but I wasn’t even sure what it was, let alone whether it is healthy or not. Usually, I don’t pay any attention to diets, especially fad diets. I never started the alkaline diet to lose weight, even though it’s a great way to lose weight (and a healthy way) if that’s what you’re after.
But because you’ve asked, and it might lead me to some great alkaline recipes – I’ve decided to research the Paleo diet.
What is the Paleo Diet?
The Paleo diet replicates the diet of cavemen and it claims to help followers lose weight and prevent disease. The Paleo diet permits followers to eat fruit, vegetables, nuts and even meat, fish, and eggs, but the diet prohibits potatoes, dairy, grains, sugar, legumes, and salt. So overall the Paleo diet is pretty strict with enough scope to prepare some delicious meals. Basically, it looks like the Paleo diet is a back to basics diet – cutting out all the so called modern foods.
The Paleo diet seems to be the fastest growing diet in the world right now. You see celebrities, chefs, and all kinds of experts following the Paleo diet.
The Paleo diet seems to claim many health benefits but is the Paleo diet really healthy or is it just another unhealthy diet?
Is the Paleo Diet Healthy?
This is a loaded question and when I researched the question of whether the Paelo diet is healthy or not, I came across many different answers. Some say yes it’s the healthiest diet ever, while others say it’s terrible.
Some of the potential health benefits of the Paleo diet are:
- Weight loss
- Reducing risk of heart disease, and type 2 diabetes
- Increased Energy
- Clearer Skin
- A Leaner Body
- Increased Libido
- Increased Mental Clarity
- Increased Stamina
- Better Workouts
- Better sleep
- Improve or eliminate acne
These are some serious claims, and before I say they are true, I’d like to see some more medical research to prove whether the Paleo diet is really healthy. Something I haven’t really come across.
So is the Paleo diet healthy? Well, I’m not sure. Logically however, the diet does make some sense to me and there are some similarities to an alkaline diet, espcially in terms of not eating sugar, dairy and grains. The main differences are obviously that you can eat meat and eggs on a Paleo diet.
